I think about the little shore towns and the disparity between the people that live there vs the people who come down for a season and then go home to someplace else. And I had a line I kept coming back to: “Old shore towns, like city blocks, are lined with one-way streets.” I wanted to use that line as a way to connect those two disparate groups. Like, their grid is aligned similarly, but their way of life is a whole lot different. It’s a song about living in parallel and trying hard to make those one-way streets crossover.
